Tempering and Heat Strengthening
Glass + Mirror Craft’s heat-treating process, or Tempering, produces internal stresses that force the glass to become remarkably stronger and ensuring that if it breaks, it crumbles into tiny pieces. At times, glass manufacturing can create tiny inclusions of nickel sulfide. Under extreme conditions, these inclusions can weaken tempered glass to a potential break. The heat soaking process is an added measure to reveal these inclusions and strengthen the glass. Glass + Mirror Craft’s heat strengthening, tempering, and heat soaking is offered for most of its glass products.
Tempering and heat soaking are performed to ASTM standards in a SGCC-certified facility. Glass + Mirror Craft’s tempering oven accommodates glass up to 100″ x 180″, heat soaking capacity up to 100″ x 180″.
Decorative and Structural Lamination
Glass + Mirror Craft’s laminated glass offers color, textures, and privacy in addition to its structural strength. The wide range of structural and decorative lamination options are applicable to residential, commercial and industrial applications.
Other laminating interlayers offered, depending on application:
- EVA (decorative lamination): similar to the most common interlayer, PVB, EVA is lighter, and enables new possibilities for decorative interlayers.
- Sentryglas (structural lamination): offers more structural strength than PVB, used where additional strength is necessary for structural or safety considerations.
