The Old Post Office and Clock Tower has long been a D.C. landmark. Purchased as the site of a new luxury hotel, revitalization of the building required extreme care to preserve its more than 100 years of history.
Glass + Mirror Craft assisted with the renovation of more than two dozen interior doorways throughout the building, providing metal threshold and hardware components along with the inset glass. Materials and methods of integration were carefully selected to ensure the surroundings would be impacted as little as possible. Because each entryway’s conditions were different – from marble to wood, framed to frameless – Glass+Metal Craft worked with the building’s approval board to carefully track each and ensure they were developed to specifications using precise materials that held historic value.
G+MC’s Cuda Metals Division provided custom hardware that matched the chosen finish for each entrance in rich, solid, high-gloss and satin brass, and designed handles that mimicked those used elsewhere in the building. After reviewing the original project specs, G+MC’s Fulcrum Architectural Design Assist Division brought additional value by recommending more versatile components that could be easily updated and reused should the finishes change in the future.
