Glazier: Modern Mirror & Glass Co.
When Sachse Construction chose to revitalize a Downtown Detroit venue for their new headquarters, they turned to glazier Modern Mirror to install several challenging arched radius panels of glass for several interior glass offices. Fabricating the glass to demanding specifications – and determining the best sequence for installing the curved glass into the surrounding wood structure – would be a challenge. And so, Modern Mirror turned to Glass+Metal Craft.
G+MC teamed closely with the glazier to acquire the exact dimensions of each arc – each slightly different one to the next – then digitized the dimensions into its large format CNC lathe for precise cutting. In all, 50 radius panels were fabricated using ½-inch tempered Guardian glass.
The next challenge was to envision the sequence of installation for the arched glass, and dozens of other surrounding pieces of glass, while relying on a minimal amount of hardware and patch fittings to hold all elements in place. G+MC’s Fulcrum Architectural Design Assist Division worked with the glazier and general contractor to determine the precise location of the supporting hardware, and the optimum flow of installation.
Not many glass fabricators can deliver the full range of services required by this project. G+MC can, and does, every day.
