Glazier: Modern Mirror and Glass
Architect Yamasaki Inc. was retained to design the $10 million transformation of a vacant four-story building that sits alongside one the nation’s premier art-deco efficacies – the Guardian Building in downtown Detroit.
Glazier Modern Mirror and Glass chose Glass + Metal Craft to fabricate the glass for the exterior structural walls, made with Guardian SN54 on Crystal Gray and Neutral 78/65.
Glass + Metal Craft applied its state-of-the-art quality manufacturing processes and real-time, automated inspection equipment to fabricate exceptionally flat, defect-free glass – all within the manufacturing and manpower constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic. The flat glass was critical to the architect’s intent as the front façade provides the backdrop for a dramatic aluminum sunshade that “floats” and reflects in front of it.
Together the glass and shades provide a stunning visual statement tying the lower Woodward corridor to the city’s Campus Martius and the Detroit Riverfront.
