The Herrick District Library — a community gem in the city of Holland bordering Lake Michigan — recently received $5.6 million in renovation funding used to add interior glass that adds new light, a sense of greater space, and private yet transparent areas for individual and group study and technical innovation interaction.
Glazier Architectural Glass and Metals out of nearby Grand Rapids, Michigan retained G+MC to engineer and delivery the array of laminated glass partitions for the study rooms and technology space — as well as the glass guardrails for a stunning three-story open glass stairway meeting the vision of architect Maxwell Nykerk.
Glass + Metal Craft also provided the stainless stairway rails and connecting hardware, the cladding for the partitions and study rooms, and the handles and other hardware for the study room doors.
All glass components were fabricated using U.S. sourced Guardian Glass. The stainless steel hardware used in the stairway rails, and required for guardrail and partition support and the study room doors, were custom manufactured by G+MC or sourced locally.
