Job Summary
The Shipping & Receiving Team Lead is a hands-on working leader responsible for overseeing and actively participating in nightly outbound logistics operations within a glass fabrication facility. This role is not desk-based — the Team Lead will load trucks, move glass, operate equipment, and work side-by-side with the team to ensure safe, accurate, and on-time shipments.
This position is also the point of contact between leadership and overnight employees, reinforcing G+MC culture, driving on-time delivery, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring operational excellence during the overnight shift.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping & Receiving Operations
- Lead by example with hands-on work — actively load and unload trucks with glass, fabricated products, racks, crates, and materials
- Coordinate and assist loaders with all nightly shipping and receiving activities
- Ensure outgoing shipments are accurate, properly packaged, labeled, secured, and shipped on time
- Serve as the primary point of contact between overnight employees and leadership
- Push and reinforce G+MC culture and 4 Non-Negotiables: Attendance, Attitude, Quality, and Safety
- Drive on-time delivery performance and help resolve shipment delays or issues in real time
- Assign work, monitor productivity, and ensure labor is aligned with nightly shipping priorities
- Train, coach, and mentor loading dock personnel
- Enforce all safety procedures for handling glass, racks, crates, and heavy materials
- Ensure proper use of PPE, cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment
- Maintain strong communication with logistics, production, and transportation teams
- Assist leadership with unship reports, shipping discrepancies, and nightly reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, workflow efficiency, and dock organization
- Overnight position
- Mandatory overtime expected with or without notice
- Physically demanding role involving heavy glass, racks, crates, and equipment
- Fast-paced production and shipping environment
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce strict safety procedures for handling glass, racks, crates, and heavy materials
- Ensure proper use of PPE, forklifts, cranes, and material-handling equipment
- Maintain OSHA compliance and support safety audits and incident investigations
Inventory & Documentation
- Maintain accurate inventory records in ERP/WMS systems
- Oversee staging, storage, and rack organization to prevent damage and delays
- Ensure all shipping documents (BOLs, packing lists, manifests) are accurate and complete
Cross-Department Coordination
- Work closely with Production, Quality, and Customer Service teams to meet delivery schedules
- Communicate delays, shortages, or quality concerns proactively
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce damage, rework, and shipping errors
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of shipping and receiving experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
- 1+ years in a lead or supervisory role
- Experience handling fragile or heavy materials (glass)
- Forklift certification or ability to become certified
- Strong understanding of warehouse safety practices
Preferred
- Experience in glass fabrication or building materials industry
- Familiarity with A-frames, glass racks, crates, and oversized loads
- ERP/WMS experience (e.g.,Fenevision)
- Basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets, inventory systems)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, and temperature variations
