On November of 2019 Glass + Metal Craft visited Stryker in Portage Michigan for a walk through of the new facility. This project that G+MC partnered up with Calvin & Company is nearing its completion. The new 485,000 square foot, $154 million dollar facility will launch Stryker into the next era. This state of the art facility includes many amenities for employees, from patios and cafés, to high-tech training centers, offices and conference rooms designed to encourage collaboration. This new space ties in with their culture of putting their people first.
Glass + Metal Craft’s part
Stepping into the new space you can see hundreds of custom stainless steel guardrail posts throughout the facility. They are found throughout and blend seamlessly with the building’s modern design. However, these posts are not as simple as they look. We not only had to design this new post system to meet the vision, we needed to meet all code requirements. Most importantly, we also had make it a system we could fabricate with precision and on a tight schedule. G+MC was able to design, engineer and fabricate all of the interior glass. “This is exactly the kind of project we excel in. From our design team (Fulcrum), to our custom metals team (Cuda Metals), all the way to our glass division, we look forward to challenges like this.” Kristen Forth – Fulcrum D.A. Mgr.
However, the glass and metal guardrail system wasn’t everything Glass and Metal Craft touched. The scope of this project was huge for Glass + Metal Craft. “We provided everything, from guardrails, partitions, door systems, all the way to the smoke baffles. Everything your eye can see is G+MC glass.” Alex Buechel – Creative Director, G+MC.
This project meant months of work for G+MC. We used all of our internal resources to deliver and we delivered precision, function and beauty. This project is yet another clear example of Glass + Metal Craft’s capabilities.
