It’s the new year! And there’s no better time than to aggressively build on what works best. For us, one of those practices is the tremendous advantage we provide our customers by having our own engineering design team in house.
Over the past several decades, Glass + Metal Craft has invested significantly in top-drawer engineering talent. A decision that continues to deliver remarkably forward-thinking products.
The latest is our Pre-Engineered MURUS™ Type III Glass Structural Wall. We’ve previewed it with several architectural audiences, and we think it’s going to be an industry home run.
The Murus Type III is up to a 230” tall structure wall with no horizontal seams, no point-support hardware, and no shelves. Instead, we structurally glaze the glass (either insulated or monolithic laminated) with silicone to glass fins that rest in place using minimal “fin boat” hardware.
The glass options are nearly endless. Customize it with or without low-e coatings. Add silkscreen decorations. And a variety of glass substrates – from low-iron to tints – can be frosted or even painted.
However, the real game-changing element is the door “portal”. The ultra slim design features a unique fin mounted header that both houses the door opening hardware. It also provides support for the transom glass that sits above the opening.
The door jamb itself is minimalistic, covering less than 3.5” of glass area. Minimal hardware that maximizes views. Final finish is stainless or painted cladding.
There’s also the option of turning the portal into a vestibule! This is a strength of our engineering team and thus a point of focus for us this year and even more so the next.
When you have talent in hand, and the years of experience to support its vision, well, as Captain Kirk would say, it’s time to boldly go where no man (or company in our industry) has gone before!
