Hall of Fame football coach Barry Switzer once said “some people are born on third base and go through life thinking they hit a triple.”
For most of us, getting to third base requires working hard at the plate to get on first. Then making your way to second – maybe with the help of a walk. And finding yourself on third, thanks to a sacrifice fly.
Bottom line, it takes a lot of work to get anywhere on anything – on your part, and most often, the part of your teammates helping you along.
So it was great to hear Glass+Metal Craft recently getting a shout out from one of our key teammates, Guardian Glass, with whom we enjoy a strategic partnership. And from another industry leader, Max Perilstein, Managing Partner of Sole Source Consultants and a noted voice on glass.
Max has a terrific podcast tracking industry activities called From The Fabricator. It recently featured an interview with Chris Dolan, who’s Director of Guardian’s Commercial Segment – Technical Services. He’s as immersed in the industry as sand in glass.
Chris spoke about Guardian’s annual Commercial Projects Awards, recognizing outstanding glass installations across the nation. In 2020, G+MC received the award for the nearly 200,000 square feet of insulated glass fabricated for two new venues sharing the same city block in downtown Grand Rapids.
During the podcast, Chris singled us out, calling our effort to supply both buildings simultaneously – on a fast track, to two different glaziers – “a tremendous job … a great project.” He also commented on the point-supported structural wall we designed and delivered for one of the buildings.
Speaking of Guardian, project glaziers Glass Design and Precision Wall, and G+MC, Max added “Congrats to everybody on that one. This is a real powerhouse of a grouping and great collaborations all the way around.”
Thank you for the compliments! But the bigger story is this: great partners, great collaboration – that’s how you get on third base. And how you get home and win.
If you like, check the podcast out for yourself: Episode 8, running August 15. The discussion of the Grand Rapids project begins around 11:30 into the show.
