Looking at the main entrance facade for the new Fulton State Hospital in Missouri, the glass is striking in its flatness, color consistency, and clarity. To me it screams quality. And, to get there, the innovation and effort behind it was substantial.
Glass + Mirror Craft recently teamed with Guardian, Sadev USA, and Central Missouri Glass to create the elaborate structural façade, which incorporates the first use of 12mm thick Guardian SNX 62/27 glass as the exterior layer to a point-supported insulated system.
Not many fabricators would get involved with such a project.
We had to navigate uncharted waters: the 12mm coated glass required the development of a new tempering recipe. The units were challenging to fabricate, requiring oversize CNC equipment to mill the exterior dimensions and precise holes for the point supporting metal. Then there were the delicate tasks of assembling the hole spacers, and heat-soak testing the completed insulated units.
All of this effort takes time and comes with risk, so there’s good reason other fabricators say “no”.
But we say “YES”. Glass + Mirror Craft is building its reputation as an industry innovator, and so we focus our in-house engineering expertise to provide proprietary game-changing solutions – including products that can be used “right out of the box.”. Look to us to provide cable or fin supported wall systems, minimalistic metal structural hardware, robust entrance systems, and more. Our long view is to be the reliable provider of fully engineered, unique, definitive products, packaged in simple kits to ease the flow of installation.
Most glaziers choose to work in those areas in which they are familiar, and that’s just good business. They can count on Glass + Mirror Craft to assist them to take on the more difficult aspects of a project and bring it to distinctive completion.
